ABOUT IMAGE
IMAGE stands for Improve Marford and Gresford Environment. It is a local environmental group, established in the year 2000, open to all who have an interest in our local environment. We work with many partners to enhance our community including the county borough and community councils, the Gresford Trust, local churches and schools and the North Wales Wildlife Trust. We are also linked to other local groups in Wrexham’s Agenda 21 initiative.
We have produced annual calendars featuring photographs of our locality, a leaflet illustrating 7 excellent local walks and a “bag for life” designed by Rofft School pupils. Groups of us volunteer to tidy up and prune back round the lake and take care of 30 flower tubs and hanging baskets around the community. An annual Christmas tree is a much-loved feature. This much-appreciated work is made possible with the help of grants from the community council and grants from Keep Wales Tidy. Local primary schools help with the hanging baskets.
We run Tidy Up Sunday events to make the village more attractive. We have run two Christmas quizzes to raise funds. We have obtain small grants for flowers, trees and litter-pickers, from Keep Wales Tidy.
Currently (2012-2013 and ongoing) we are very much involved in the Village Improvements Project. We are not afraid to lobby and make our views known concerning local building applications to the local planning and highways authorities, Railtrack, councillors, MPs and AMs.
Meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month (except August) at 7.30 pm in the Memorial Hall, Gresford. We welcome all new participants. You are warmly invited to join us and let us know your views on environmental issues.

WHAT IS LOCAL AGENDA 21?
Local Agenda 21 is an opportunity to improve everyone's quality of life. It is a plan to balance economic, social and environmental well being. This is to ensure that economic progress is not at the cost of the natural environment or society.
HOW DID IT START?
In 1992, at the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit, over 170 world nations signed up to a voluntary agreement called Agenda 21. This document was an Agenda for the 21st century, made up of numerous chapters each detailing the role that different parts of society could play. There are chapters for central government, local government, business and non-government and community organisations. The chapter for local government has been translated in the UK into "Local Agenda 21", introduced in 1994 by central government, directing each local authority to have developed a LA21 strategy by 2000.
IMAGE was formed as part of the Wrexham Local Agenda 21 forum in 2000. The group meets on an informal basis approximately every six weeks in the Gresford Memorial Hall and is open to anyone who lives or works in the local community. There is no formal membership as such apart from the elected officers of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. Anyone who wishes to be kept informed of the activities of the Group can have their details entered on the Group's database. Details of meetings etc. are sent out electronically to everyone on the database. This database is kept exclusively for the transmission of IMAGE information and will not be passed on to any third party for any purpose whatsoever.
Put very simply, the aim of the group is to help the local community to improve its quality of life.
